Introduction

In the annals of contemporary Guinea, few personalities have managed to combine so brilliantly an exemplary military career and decisive political commitment.

Amara Camara, born on November 22, 1984 in Banankoro, in the Kérouané region, embodies this rare combination of martial values and state leadership.

As Brigadier General, spokesman and Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic of Guinea, his career is marked by a fuller ascension marked by challenges and successes.

Childhood and Education

Originally from Upper Guinea, a region known for its warrior traditions, Amara Camara bathed from an early age in an environment conducive to the development of qualities such as discipline, courage and sense of duty.

However, it was on the banks of the Royal School of Infantry of Morocco, where he obtained in 2008-2009 a degree as a chief of the infantry section, that his military vocation was truly established.

Later, his thirst for learning led him to the École d'État-major de Libreville, where he obtained in 2012-2013 a diploma from the Military Higher Education of First Degree (EMS1) in the promotion "Alassane Ouattara".

Continuing on this initiative, he travelled to Paris to undertake a training at the École de guerre, crowned in 2015-2016 with a diploma from the Military Higher Education of Second Degree (EMS2) as well as a master 2 in options, cultures and policies at the EPHE-Sorbonne, in the promotion "Verdun".

Military career

Amara Camara joined the Guinean Armed Forces on 1 January 2003, starting a career rich in experience and responsibilities.

His baptism of fire came when he took the deputy command of the Guinean battalion deployed in Kidal, Mali, for thirteen months. This first operational mission is worth two letters of congratulations, testifying to his proven competence in the field.

Upon his return to the country, he served as General Resources Officer at the Inter-Armed Military School (EMIA) from 2007 to 2008, then as Interim Director of Studies at the EMIA from 2012 to 2015, and as Commander of Promotions from 2010 to 2011.

His ascension continued when he became Deputy Commander of Gangan3 and Chief of Operations at MINUSMA, the United Nations Mission in Mali, from 2017 to 2018.

In January 2019, Amara Camara entered the strategic position of Executive Director of EMIA, before becoming the Chief Executive Officer in January 2020. This responsibility demonstrates the confidence placed in his skills and leadership by the Guinean military hierarchy.

Role in the CNRD

September 5, 2021 marks a turning point in Amara Camara's life. Following the coup d'état by the National Committee of the Rassemblement for Development (CNRD), he was promoted to the front of the political scene as a spokesman for the military junta.

In this crucial role, he becomes the face and voice of the CNRD, responsible for communicating the decisions and guidelines of the new transitional authority.

His media interventions, marked by firmness and pedagogy, contribute to reassuring the people of Guinea and the international community about the intentions of the CNRD.

Minister Secretary General at the Presidency

On 6 October 2021, Amara Camara made a new step by being appointed Secretary-General under the Presidency of the Republic of Guinea.

This appointment enshrines his leading role within the new power and testifies to the confidence placed in him by the transitional president, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya.

In January 2022, his political stature increased when he became the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic. He is now the voice of the Guinean executive, both nationally and internationally.

Conclusion

Amara Camara's journey eloquently illustrates the possibility of combining military and civilian virtues in the service of a patriotic ideal.

An aguerri officer, noted from his first missions for his cold-blooded and leadership, he also managed to elevate himself to the rank of an indispensable political actor, speaking of a transitional power facing immense challenges.

Recognized for his dedication to the Guinean nation, as evidenced by his recent ascension to the rank of Brigadier General, Amara Camara embodies a new generation of African leaders, determined to combine martial heritage with a reforming and progressive vision.

His unique journey, now shaping the contemporary history of Guinea, will undoubtedly remain a source of inspiration for the younger generations.
