Education

Born in 1940 near the village of Sangbaralla, Famoudou Konaté has been immersed in the music and percussion traditions of his malinké ethnicity from a very young age. A true prodigy, he was already playing jembé at community festivals at the age of eight and was quickly sought throughout the region as a jembéfola (master of jambé). In 1987, German percussionist Johannes Beer met him in Conakry and took him to form the Ensemble Moderne in Germany. At the end of 1988, Famoudou Konaté formed his own ensemble, the Famaudou konaté Ensemble, managed by the famous Berlin duo "Djembe Tubabu". (Silvia Kronewald et Paul Engel).
